While there are many aspects of a successful social media strategy as a speaker, there’s always one underlying principle: consistency is key.
It doesn’t matter how fancy your social media posts may be or how often you post; if you’re not consistent, your followers will eventually lose interest.
To reiterate, the most important thing is to be CONSISTENT.
This doesn’t just mean having a regular posting schedule. It’s also about maintaining a consistent brand voice across all your social media channels.
So, with that in mind, I’ve put together these 11 quickfire tips that will ensure your social media efforts are as consistent as possible.
11 Quickfire Tips for Staying Consistent on Social as a Speaker
Here are the minute marks that cover highlights in this episode:
#1: Plan Ahead with a Content Calendar
(2:34) Planning ahead can help you stay consistent on social media. Start by developing a content calendar to help map out your posts. This will help you stay on track and ensure that you have post ideas already for significant dates in your industry or general occasions in the calendar (such as national holidays).
#2: Set Achievable Goals
(3:11) One of the reasons that people start full of enthusiasm and then quickly lose interest in social media is that they don’t have clear goals. Starting a social media strategy without clear aims or objectives is a surefire way to fail.
Why would you be consistent when you have no idea what you’re trying to achieve?
So sit down and come up with achievable goals for your social media channels that you can see yourself achieving over time.
#3: Use Automation Tools
(3:50) You’ll know that I’m a massive believer in being everywhere all at once. But that’s not always possible or desirable, at least not without help. That’s where automation comes in.
By using tools such as social media schedulers, you can upload all of your content for the week, month, or even an entire year and have the tool post it at the best possible times for engagement for each social media channel.
You can then use your valuable time to carry out other social activities, such as responding to comments or following people.
#4: Repurpose Your Content
(5:20) Another easy way to remain consistent on social media is to repurpose your content. Never be afraid to chop up and reuse content across multiple platforms – it’s a potentially game-changing time saver.
From turning your blog post intro into a LinkedIn post to posting a segment of your speaker video on Facebook, there are several ways to repurpose content for maximum impact across each channel.
#5: Collaborate with Others
(6:16) If you feel you’re running out of things to say on social, why not collaborate with others? Collaborating with other influencers and brands in your niche can help you develop fresh and engaging content while gaining access to new audiences.
Teaming up with others is an excellent way to stay top of mind without becoming stale or predictable.
#6: Diversify Your Content
(6:42) Chances are, if you’re becoming bored of creating and scheduling the same types of posts, then your followers are bored of reading them too. So keep challenging yourself to create new types of content and see how well you do.
Keep your followers engaged by sharing pictures, videos, infographics, live videos, and more. This will keep them coming back for more, and you’ll be on your way to a successful social media presence.
#7: Engage with Your Audience
(7:20) You should never simply “put things out there” on your social channels. You should be actively engaging with your followers and trying to learn more about them.
Not only can you strike up interesting conversations and forge strong relationships with your followers, but you can also learn about their interests and what they’re looking for on social media.
So if you need a day off posting, go ahead and get involved in the online communities where your target audience hangs out.
#8: Keep Measuring and Adjusting
(9:17) There’s no point in setting goals and then not tracking how well you’re doing. You need to keep tabs on metrics such as follower counts, likes, shares, and comments to ensure that you’re making the most of your social media presence.
If things are going well, great! Seeing positive results can give you that shot in the arm and motivation boost to keep pumping out content. If things aren’t going to plan, spend time adjusting your social media strategy to get back on the right track
#9: Stray True to Your Brand
(10:19) As I mentioned, consistency isn’t just about posting regularly. It’s about having a consistent brand voice across all your social media channels.
Ask yourself this, if someone was to land on your Instagram page, would they get the same impression of you had they landed on your LinkedIn profile first?
If not, why not? Are your branding colors the same? Is your style and tone of voice across all your social media channels the same? While there will always be subtle differences between platforms, someone should be able to land on any of your active channels and instantly know it’s you.
That’s how you build a strong personal brand that you can leverage into speaking opportunities.
#10: Monetize Your Content
(12:40) If you’re feeling down on motivation, just remember social media is more than just a brand awareness tool. You can make money directly from your posts. While you can occasionally get leads for paid speaking engagements from social DMs, there are various other ways to monetize your content.
For instance, you could promote your book by offering a limited-time special discount for followers or those who sign up to your email list.
Whatever the auxiliary products and services you offer may be, just mentioning them (without being over the top – everyone hates this) can secure you some extra revenue directly from your social content, giving you the drive to post more often and make more money.
#11: Have Fun!
(13:49) People often view social media as a necessary evil. But it doesn’t have to be that way! When done right, social media is a great way to connect with others and have fun.
If you actually enjoy the process of engaging with others, you’ll be more likely to stick around and follow through with your social media goals.
For instance, I love spending time in our private Facebook Group, Grow Your Speaking Biz. The guys and gals in there are always willing to help and offer advice, and I love the general discussions between members. It’s a great way to connect with others in my field and have some fun too.
So, if you want to see your social media efforts pay off, have fun with it!
